Citizenship

Citizenship
Our aim is to provide learning experiences which enable children to develop the necessary skills to participate in their local community and within the wider society. We want children to consider rights and responsibilities of all citizens and appreciate the diverse nature of society. The teaching is based on crosscurricular themes and issues as they crop up. ‘Circle Time’ is used for discussion of these themes and issues and children are encouraged to seek resolution. The school has an active ‘School Council’ which meets regularly to address issues across the school.

Religious Education

Religious Education

The school uses the Medway Agreed Syllabus as a basis for developing moral and spiritual awareness. We aim to provide opportunities for children to explore meaning and purpose to life through Christianity and other world religions. R.E. is taught both as a cross-curricular and a separate subject.

A daily act of worship is undertaken in the form of assemblies by the Headteacher, teachers and classes themselves. A daily prayer or ‘school reflection’ is included within these. We also invite visitors to lead assemblies so children receive a broad view of their communities.

Personal, Social and Health Education

Personal, Social and Health Education
We aim to promote good patterns of behaviour in social, personal and health education. Crosscurricular themes are incorporated into lessons dependant on age. Examples of themes covered include basic personal health and hygiene, road safety and in Years 5 and 6 substance abuse and sex education along with HIV. Sex Education consists of certain elements taught separately using video programmes. Children’s questions are answered frankly and honestly with due consideration given to the child’s age and maturity. At all times the emphasis is on good morals and the value of family life. Parents are invited to special meetings to view the resources and discuss any concerns.
