We follow the National Curriculum which consists of three ‘Core’ subjects: English, Maths and Science, including the National Strategies of Literacy and Numeracy, and the ‘Foundation’ subjects: History, Geography, Design Technology, Music, Art and PE.
Teachers use a range of teaching strategies including whole class, ability sets, target groups and individual. Work is therefore differentiated to provide appropriate levels for each child. Children in Years 5 and 6 are ‘set’ for English, Maths and Science for 5 sessions per week. This also helps children to become familiar with the transition to secondary education.
Pupils in Foundation Stage are given six areas of learning: personal, social and emotional development, communication, language and literacy, mathematical development, knowledge and understanding of the world, physical development and creative development.
The curriculum is planned and resourced so that the best opportunities are provided for children to succeed in an atmosphere of care and of being valued. Children are encouraged to think and talk about their learning and develop self-control and independence.
