Year two is the final year of Key Stage One. Work previously covered in Year One is extended and consolidated and the children become able to work independantly for sustained periods of time.
At the end of the year the children will complete SATs tests and tasks in English and Maths. They are also assessed by the teacher and the level is reported to parents in annual reports.
We aim for learning to be fun and to build on what the children can do. Your child will be involved in a number of events thoroughout the year to promote this positive attitude to learning. These include, Maths Week, Book Week and Science Week. During these weeks children will carry out exciting investigations and have the opportunity to enter competitions and dress up, you may also be invited to observe and help your child in different lessons.
The children are set up in ability groups for Maths. Maths homework is set on a Friday and Spellings are given every two weeks. Please take time to read with your child every night and add a comment or sign their contact book when you have done this.
We also present children with good work certificates in assemblies and have the opportunity to earn points for their designated house. Each time they earn 10 points they receive a special award. Scores for each house are totalled each week and throughout the year accumulated to find the winning team. This team will be rewarded with a tag day, where they will be allowed to wear their own clothes for that day.
