Overview

A Year R classroom

This year we have opened as a Foundation Stage Unit where both Reception and Nursery children work and play together in our open planned spacious learning environment.

The Foundation Stage Unit at Napier is all about having fun and learning at the same time. Children learn through well-planned play activities as well as activities initiated by them.  The children access their learning both indoors and out, all year round.

There are three Reception classes, each with a teacher.  There are also two full time teaching assistants.

2. Communication, Language and Literacy – Speaking and listening to others as well as the development of early reading and writing skills.

5. Physical Development – Developing fine motor skills, including pencil and scissor control, as well as improving jumping, skipping, hopping, climbing and small and large apparatus skills.

The topics and activities that we cover in the Foundation Stage Unit vary each year as they are planned to meet the children’s interests and individual needs.
